The School of Maritime Operations (SMOPS) has commenced a two-week Simulator Instructor Training Course aimed at equipping Officers and Operators with the requisite skills, knowledge and competence to effectively conduct simulator training and also undertake basic maintenance of the simulator equipment.
In his opening remarks, the Second-in-Command (2IC) of SMOPS and Course Coordinator, Lieutenant Commander Yaw Achiaw Owusu-Danso, outlined the objectives of the course, stating that it seeks to create a pool of simulator-trained instructors on which the Ghana Navy can rely, in order to conduct simulator-based training. He added that the course is also intended to develop experts who can, in turn, train other simulator instructors, and establish a cadre of simulator technicians capable of diagnosing and repairing simulator malfunctions.
The Commanding Officer of SMOPS, Naval Captain Michael Cudjoe, in his remarks, encouraged participants to avail themselves of the training and demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discipline throughout the course. He stressed the importance of simulator training in modern naval operations, noting that it provides a safe and controlled environment to rehearse operational scenarios, enhance decision-making skills, and improve tactical proficiency.
He further urged participants to approach the course with commitment and seriousness, stressing that the knowledge and skills acquired would significantly contribute to strengthening the Ghana Navy’s training capability and operational readiness.
The course forms part of ongoing efforts to enhance training delivery and technical capacity within the Ghana Navy.
