Leading Seaman (LS) Akutor Sarah Precious of Ghana Navy Shipyard, Naval Logistics Command (NAVLOC) undertook a 3.1km (1.67 nautical miles) endurance swimming expedition from Busua Beach to Abokwa Island. LS Akutor is the youngest and the first-ever female Rating and diver who undertook this record-setting expedition. She completed the expedition in 61.30 minutes, amounting to an hour, a minute, and 30 seconds. It took her 33 minutes to swim to Abokwa Island and 28 minutes and 30 seconds to swim back to Busua Beach, amidst high tides. The Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Logistics Command (NAVLOC), Commodore (Cdre) Eric Osei, in his remarks, said the objective of LS Akutor's swimming expedition was to help raise funds to support the Chief of the Defence Staff’'s (CDS'), initiative to construct a facility for special needs children of personnel in 5 Garrison of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) in Accra. He said the establishment of a Special Needs Facility would bring relief to personnel to enable them concentrate on their core duties. The FOC NAVLOC congratulated LS Akutor Sarah Precious for her courage, resilience, and determination to embark on the expedition to help support a worthy cause for humanity. He stated her initiative reminded all that service to the country extends beyond the uniform and operational duties, adding that it was also about standing up for the vulnerable and creating meaningful change in the community. After her expedition, LS Akutor reiterated that service was not only wearing the uniform but also using the gifts, strength, and heart to lift others, hence undertaking the venture to generate funds to support the CDS' vision. She added that she did not swim across the high tides and strong waves because of fame, but to give hope, recognition, acceptance, and replace stigma with understanding and compassion.
