The European Union (EU), through its EU Support Programme, has donated four Honda Outboard Motors (OBMs) and 10 sets of Scuba diving equipment to the Naval Logistics Command (NAVLOC) at a brief ceremony held at the forecourt of the Naval Shipyard Complex, Sekondi, on Thursday, 16 July 2026.
The naval assets and equipment were provided under the Foreign Intelligence Assistance Programme (FIAP) Assistance Measure Project, which seeks to support military personnel and navies of coastal states involved in maritime operations within the Gulf of Guinea.
Presenting the items on behalf of the EU Support Programme, Colonel Gallardo Miguel of the Royal Spanish Marine Corps described the donation as a testament to the longstanding partnership between the European Union and the Ghana Navy. He stated that the initiative was not merely a donation but a strategic effort to strengthen the operational capabilities of the Ghana Navy and other coastal naval forces in combating illegal maritime activities and safeguarding maritime resources.
Receiving the equipment on behalf of the Ghana Navy, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Logistics Command, Commodore Eric Osei, expressed appreciation to the EU Support Programme for its continuous support to the Ghana Navy. He noted that the donation would significantly enhance the Navy’s anti-piracy efforts and strengthen maritime security operations in the Gulf of Guinea.
Speaking at the ceremony, the Director Special Projects (DSP) at Ghana Navy Headquarters, Commander Kwadwo Nyarko Ansong, disclosed that the donation formed part of the first phase of a broader support package.
The Director Technical Division, Naval Captain Joseph Kweku Twum, the Director Procurement and Contract Management, Naval Captain Anthony Sarfo, the Deputy Superintendent of the Naval Shipyard, Commander Frank Boateng, the Commander Dock Operations, Commander Nana Ohene Adoo, Senior Officers, Officers, Ratings, and Defence Civilian Staff were present to witness the ceremony.
