The Naval Recruit Training School (NRTS) has organised an Inter-Division Drill Competition for recruits of Basic Training Intake 85 (BT 85) on Friday, 17 July 2026, at the NAVTRAC Parade Square, Nutekpor.
The competition was part of the recruits' military training programme and aimed to assess their proficiency in drill, turnout, discipline, teamwork, and precision. It also provided an opportunity for the recruits to demonstrate the knowledge and skills acquired during training while fostering healthy competition among the divisions.
The competition featured synchronised drill displays, with each division being assessed on command execution, coordination, military bearing, turnout, and overall performance in accordance with established military drill standards.
In his opening remarks, the Commanding Officer of NRTS, Commander (Cdr) Michael Asiamah, welcomed the recruits and officials to the competition and described drill as one of the cornerstones of military training. He noted that beyond developing precision in movement, drill instils discipline, teamwork, alertness, and obedience to command. He encouraged the recruits to approach the competition with confidence, uphold the highest standards of military bearing, and demonstrate the skills they had acquired throughout their training.
Addressing the recruits, the Guest of Honour and Commanding Officer of the School of Maritime Operations (SMOPS), Naval Captain Michael Cudjoe, commended them for the high standard of performance displayed during the competition. He noted that drill remains a fundamental component of military training as it develops discipline, teamwork, confidence, and attention to detail. He urged the recruits to sustain the commitment and determination demonstrated during the competition and to continue striving for excellence throughout their training, reminding them that discipline remains the bedrock of a successful military career.
The competition concluded with GNS BONSU Division emerging as the overall winner, while GNS ACHIMOTA Division and GNS SEBO Division placed second and third, respectively. The winning divisions received awards in recognition of their outstanding display of discipline, precision, and teamwork. The competition forms part of NRTS' comprehensive training programme aimed at developing competent, disciplined, and professionally prepared personnel for the Ghana Navy.
