Principal Staff Officers from the Naval Headquarters, led by the Deputy Chief Staff Officer (DCSO) for Personnel and Administration, Naval Captain Isaac Aratuo, engaged personnel of the Eastern Naval Command in a sensitisation programme on administrative policies, welfare, and professional conduct on Thursday, 12 March 2026, at Tema.
The programme brought together Officers and Ratings in an interactive session which featured presentations from key Directorates of Naval Headquarters, covering areas such as Administration, Legal Services, Public Relations, Gender Affairs and Religious matters.
In his address, the DCSO for Personnel and Administration, Naval Captain Aratuo, explained that the engagement was aimed at apprising personnel of important administrative directives, providing clarification on matters affecting their welfare and professional responsibilities.
Contributing to the discussions, the Deputy Chief Staff Officer in charge of Naval Policy and Plans, Naval Captain Douglas Akotey, highlighted ongoing efforts by Naval Headquarters to review the Navy’s welfare policy to improve benefits for personnel and their families, particularly in situations involving illness or bereavement.
In a related submission, the Director Naval Public Relations, Naval Captain Andy La-Anyane, also cautioned personnel on the responsible use of social media, admonishing strict adherence to the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) Social Media Guidelines to protect operational security and the image of the GAF.
Similarly, representatives from the Legal Affairs Directorate advised personnel to maintain discipline, professionalism and proper administrative procedures in addressing grievances, as part of the Ghana Navy’s efforts to enhance welfare, strengthen discipline and improve operational effectiveness.
The Gender Advisor to the Chief of the Naval Staff, Naval Captain Cecilia Amoo-Welsing, underscored the need to sustain a respectful and inclusive professional environment within the Service, noting that gender-responsive practices contribute significantly to cohesion, morale, and the overall welfare of personnel.
The Director Naval Religious Affairs, Very Rev Commander David Benedict Quayson, took turns to encourage personnel to remain guided by sound moral and spiritual values in the performance of their duties, stressing that integrity, faith, and mutual respect were vital in reinforcing discipline, unity, and the general well-being of the Ghana Navy.
