A delegation from the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Navy hospital ship, AUSPICIOUS ARK (Hull 868), has visited the Tema Naval Base Primary School for a health education outreach.
The engagement, held on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, formed part of the ship’s seven-day goodwill and humanitarian medical mission to Ghana under Mission Harmony 2026, which seeks to promote health education, cultural exchange and enhance friendship between the two countries.
The ceremony opened with a colourful cultural performance by the pupils, featuring the traditional Kpatsa and Lolokete dances. The performances showcased Ghana's rich cultural heritage and created a lively atmosphere of mutual appreciation between the school community and the visiting Chinese naval personnel.
Chinese medical professionals thereafter delivered an interactive health education session focused on eye care and the importance of maintaining good eye health. The pupils also participated in practical activities, including Chinese calligraphy, outdoor warm-up exercises, military boxing demonstrations and knot-tying exercises, giving them hands-on learning experiences and exposure to aspects of Chinese culture.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Captain Zhang Gui Peng commended the pupils for their impressive cultural performances and encouraged them to take their education, health, discipline and personal development seriously.
The Headmistress, Naval Base Primary School, Ms Margaret Adjei, expressed appreciation to the delegation for the health education session and donations, noting that the engagement had enriched the pupils’ learning experience. The delegation presented souvenirs, school bags, footballs and a plaque to the school, underscoring the educational and humanitarian focus of the mission.
