The Western Naval Command (WNC) Young Sailors Academy has held its 2026 Graduation Ceremony under the theme, "Discovering Potential, Defining the Future," on Thursday, 23 July 2026 at the Harry Seshie Drill Shed.
Delivering her address, the Guest of Honour, the Former Director of Girls Education Units, Ghana Education Service, Mrs Benedicta Tenni Seidu, expressed her appreciation to the Ghana Navy for the invitation and commended the Service for its vision and foresight in establishing the Young Sailors Academy. She described the academy as a significant investment in the future of children and the nation, noting that it reflected the Navy's commitment to providing a strong educational foundation upon which young people can build successful lives.
Mrs Seidu emphasised that quality pre-school education was the first step towards lifelong success, as it shaped young minds, instilled discipline, built confidence and developed essential life skills. She noted that every child possessed unique potential that must be discovered and nurtured through quality education, proper guidance and opportunities to learn.
She commended the management and teachers of the academy for their dedication and sacrifices in nurturing the pupils, stating that their commitment had transformed the children into confident learners capable of reading, drawing, painting, discovering, sharing and leading. Mrs Seidu encouraged the graduands to remain disciplined, confident and committed to excellence as they advance to the next stage of their academic journey.
The Headmaster of the Academy, Chief Petty Officer Class One (CPO1), Akposoe Johnson, expressed his excitement about the transition of the graduating class and noted that it was their responsibility to identify talents, nurture them and provide the right environment for every child to grow into a confident, responsible and compassionate leader. He urged the graduands to continue to be curious, obedient and hardworking.
Present were the Commanding Officer of the School of Marine Engineering and Combat Systems (SMECS), Commander Michael Nyarko, and the Command Chaplain, Lt (GN) Michael Addo Nyinaku.
