The Western Naval Command (WNC) conducted a Combat Fitness Test (CFT) for its personnel through a 10-kilometre route march along the principal streets of Sekondi on Friday, 5 June 2026. The exercise formed part of efforts to assess and maintain the physical fitness, endurance and operational readiness of personnel.
The exercise was led by the Flag Officer Fleet (FOF), Naval Captain John Bekuin-Wurapa, and involved Officers, Ratings and Defence Civilian Staff drawn from various units within the Command. It commenced at Naval Base Sekondi and traversed selected principal streets before returning to the Base.
Addressing personnel after the exercise, Naval Captain Bekuin-Wurapa underscored the importance of physical fitness in military service. He noted that operational effectiveness and combat readiness depend largely on the physical and mental resilience of personnel and encouraged them to embrace regular physical training.
The route march was characterised by a high level of enthusiasm, discipline and teamwork among participants. The exercise provided an opportunity for personnel to demonstrate endurance while strengthening camaraderie and cohesion within the Command.
The exercise ended successfully at Naval Base Sekondi, with participants commended for their commitment and resilience. The Combat Fitness Test forms part of routine Ghana Armed Forces training activities aimed at enhancing personnel fitness, promoting esprit de corps and sustaining operational preparedness.
