A 22-member delegation from the Zimbabwe Defence Force Joint Command and Staff Course 39, led by the Commandant of Zimbabwe Staff College, Brigadier-General (Brig Gen) Christopher Sibanda, paid a courtesy visit to the Naval Headquarters as part of their Study Tour activities in Ghana.The Study Tour, held under the theme "The Nexus between Economic Development and National Security," sought to deepen participants' understanding on the relationship between security and national development, while offering practical insights into maritime security and regional cooperation in the Gulf of Guinea.
The Chief Staff Officer at the Naval Headquarters, Commodore Ben Baba Abdul welcomed the delegation on behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, and expressed delight for the study tour. He highlighted the longstanding cordial relations between Ghana and Zimbabwe and noted that both countries continue to benefit from similar military training programmes that promote cooperation and the exchange of professional knowledge.
In his response, Brig Gen Sibanda said the study tour formed an important part of the course and would equip participants with broader knowledge, strengthen their professional competence and prepare them for future leadership responsibilities. He expressed appreciation to the CNS for the opportunity to learn from the Ghana Navy’s operational experience and share professional perspectives.
As part of the study tour, the Director Naval Operations, Naval Captain Dennis Eghan, delivered a presentation on maritime security and regional cooperation in the Gulf of Guinea, focusing on maritime security challenges in the region and the collaborative measures adopted by Gulf of Guinea countries in addressing them. Naval Captain Eghan mentioned that securing the Gulf of Guinea requires sustained regional cooperation, enhanced inter-agency coordination, intelligence sharing, and joint operations to strengthen maritime security and stability.
