The Navy Recruit Training School (NRTS) held a closing ceremony to officially conclude its 5-day Inter-Division Novices Boxing Competition on Friday, 31 July 2026, at the NAVTRAC Parade Square, Nutekpor. The competition formed part of the recruits’ military training programme and was aimed at developing physical fitness, discipline, courage, resilience, and mental toughness among recruits while promoting healthy competition and sportsmanship. Over the 5-day period, recruits competed in various weight categories, demonstrating the boxing skills and fighting spirit acquired during their training.
Addressing the gathering, the Guest of Honour and Chief Executive Officer of TT Brothers Company, Mr Isaac Tetteh, commended the Naval Recruit Training School for using sports as a tool for developing disciplined and resilient military personnel. He noted that boxing instils courage, perseverance, self-control, and confidence—qualities that are essential for success in military service and in life. He encouraged the recruits to remain committed to excellence, uphold discipline in all their endeavours, and view every challenge as an opportunity for personal growth.At the end of the competition, GNS ANZONE Division emerged as the overall best division, with GNS ACHIMOTA Division and GNS BONSU Division placing second and third respectively. Recruit Alorsey Jeremiah and Recruit Baagyei Davis were adjudged the Best Male and Best Female Boxers, while Recruit Sadiq Huzeifa and Recruit Alueke Evelyn received commendation awards in recognition of their resilience and determination throughout the competition.Present at the ceremony were the Deputy Chief Staff Officer (DCSO) Naval Policy and Plans, Naval Captain Douglas Yaw Akotey, DCSO Administration, Naval Captain Isaac Aratuo, Training Coordinator, Naval Captain David Dela Kpetigo, Commanding Officer of the School of Maritime Operations (SMOPS), Naval Captain Michael Cudjoe, Commanding Officer of the School of Application Supply (SAS), Commander Dennis Adjei; Commanding Officer of the Naval Recruit Training School (NRTS), Commander Michael Asiamah, Manager of Dangme Community Bank, Mr. Samuel Tetteh, as well as officers, coxswains, senior rates, ratings, Defence Civilian Staff, and invited guests.The ceremony brought the competition to a successful close, reaffirming NRTS’ commitment to using competitive sports as an integral component of recruit training to develop physically fit, disciplined, and combat-ready personnel for the Ghana Navy.
