Personnel of Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC) have been sensitised on fire safety and preventive measures aimed at enhancing awareness of fire hazards and promoting a safe working environment.
The training also sought to equip personnel with the knowledge required to prevent and respond effectively to fire incidents. The session took place on Tuesday, 17 March 2026, at the School of Maritime Operations (SMOPS) Auditorium, Nutekpor.Participants were taken through the various classes of fire, their characteristics, and the appropriate methods for handling each type. The lecture also covered the proper use of firefighting equipment, including extinguishers, stressing the importance of selecting the right response based on the nature of the fire.Facilitators from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Sogakope Division, led by Divisional Officer Grade One (DOI) Ekor Ernest, highlighted common causes of fire outbreaks in both operational and domestic environments, and outlined preventive measures, including proper handling of electrical appliances, safe storage of flammable materials, and adherence to safety protocols.The facilitators further cautioned on the importance of vigilance, early detection, and prompt response in minimising damage and safeguarding lives and property.
