An opening ceremony for Exercise Obangame Express 2025 was held at the Owusu Ansah Hall, on Monday 5 May 2025 at the Naval Headquarters (NHQ).

The annual training exercise brought together personnel drawn from the Ghana Navy, the Ghana Police and Immigration Services to strengthen multi-sectoral cooperation in the maritime domain.

The Deputy Chief Staff Officer (DCSO) Operations and Training at the NHQ, Commodore SB Nyam in his opening remarks, entreated participants to maximize their efforts to ensure the success of the exercise. He emphasized the success of Obangame 2025 would significantly contribute to maintaining peace and security within the maritime domain.

The exercise aims at assessing national systems' response to maritime threats, foster collaboration among participating institutions and bolster maritime security.

It features various training events such as Maritime Domain Awareness and Maritime Operations Planning workshop.

Participants are engaged  in lectures, practice maritime security tactics, and drill cooperatively to enhance collective maritime law enforcement capabilities.

Exercise Obangame is an annual combined Central and Western African Multinational Maritime Exercise in the Gulf of Guinea, focusing on increased regional cooperation and Maritime safety.

The exercise involves West and Central African navies and Maritime stakeholders in partnership with the United States and Euro-Atlantic navies.

The 2025 edition will be held from 10 to 16 May 2025, in collaboration with US Naval force, Africa (NAVAF) and hosted by Cabo Verde in Praia.

The Yaoundé Architecture for Maritime Security regional information sharing tool structure will be used for information sharing. The Multinational Maritime Coordination Centre Zone F, Maritime Operating Centres at NHQ, Western and Eastern Naval Commands are involved  in the exercise.
