A delegation from the European Union (EU) and the Support to West Africa Integrated Maritime Security (SWAIMS) Programme has paid a courtesy call on the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC) Naval Training Command (NAVTRAC), Commodore James Adongo Agambire, on Wednesday, 22 July 2026, at the NAVTRAC Headquarters, Nutekpor.
The delegation, led by Captain Rui-Filipe, visited the Command to strengthen existing collaboration between NAVTRAC and the SWAIMS Project, as well as discuss ongoing and future capacity-building initiatives aimed at enhancing maritime security training within the Ghana Navy.
Speaking during the visit, Captain Rui-Filipe commended NAVTRAC for its commitment to professional military training and the effective implementation of programmes supported by the SWAIMS Programme. He noted that the partnership has significantly contributed to developing the operational capabilities of Ghana Navy personnel and reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to supporting maritime security initiatives that promote safety, cooperation, and stability within the Gulf of Guinea.
Receiving the delegation, Commodore James Adongo Agambire expressed appreciation to the European Union and the SWAIMS Programme for their continued support towards capacity building at NAVTRAC. He acknowledged the impact of the various training programmes and technical assistance provided through the partnership, noting that they have enhanced the professional competence and operational readiness of Ghana Navy personnel. The FOC further reaffirmed NAVTRAC’s commitment to sustaining the collaboration and ensuring that the knowledge and skills acquired through the partnership continue to strengthen maritime security operations.
The visit concluded with discussions on areas of mutual interest and a renewed commitment by both parties to deepen cooperation in support of maritime security, professional training, and regional collaboration in the Gulf of Guinea.
