The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, has presented sports equipment to the Ghana Navy Sports Teams to support their various sporting disciplines, including football, volleyball, handball, athletics and basketball.
The presentation was made during a luncheon organised by the CNS for the sports teams on Thursday 17 September 2026, at Anchor House, Cantonments-Accra, where he also commended the teams for their dedication and achievements, noting that their accomplishments have brought honour to the Navy and enhanced the image of the Ghana Armed Forces at large.
The Chief Staff Officer at the Naval Headquarters, Commodore Ben Baba Abdul, who represented the CNS emphasised the importance of sports in maintaining the readiness of personnel. He stressed the need for the teams to remain disciplined in their sporting activities, commended coaches, trainers, mentors and team managers for their contributions and assured them of continued investment in sports development and infrastructure to equip the teams for national and international competitions.
In his remarks, the Director Naval Training at the Naval Headquarters, Naval Captain Festus Osei-Brobbery, highlighted key achievements in sports development in the Ghana Navy, including improved participation in regional and national competitions, enhanced training programmes and successful sporting activities across various disciplines. He attributed the progress to the collective efforts of management, coaches and athletes and assured the teams of continued support.
The Head Coach of the Ghana Navy Basketball Team, Fleet Chief Petty Officer Class Two Tindani Alexander, expressed gratitude to the CNS for his support and commitment to sports development. He described the gesture as a demonstration of exceptional leadership and pledged the teams’ continued dedication to achieving greater success.
The CNS later joined the gathering, providing an opportunity for closer engagement as he interacted with members of the sports teams in a relaxed atmosphere and shared in the occasion with them.
