Members of Parliament and parliamentary officials from across Africa, attending the 4th African Inter-Parliamentary Conference on Family, Sovereignty and Values, paid a familiarisation visit to the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) on Friday, 5 June 2026.
The familiarisation tour formed part of the activities of the 4th African Inter‑Parliamentary Conference on Family, Sovereignty and Values, which brought together legislators and parliamentary officials from across the continent to discuss governance, security and family welfare and to strengthen collaborative approaches to shared challenges.
The Deputy Clerk (Corporate and Financial Management Services), Mrs Gloria Sarku Kumawu PhD, acting on behalf of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, presented fifty life jackets to the Ghana Navy.
In his welcome remarks, the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), ENC, Commodore Asiedu‑Larbi, expressed appreciation for the visit and underscored its significance in deepening understanding of maritime security and the strategic role of naval forces in protecting national and regional interests.
The FOC highlighted the importance of regional cooperation among African institutions to tackle shared challenges and to promote peace, security and development. He said the visit offered delegates a first‑hand view of the Ghana Navy’s operational capabilities and its contribution to maritime security within the Gulf of Guinea.
Delegates embarked on a sea trip on board Ghana Navy Ships GNS VOLTA and GNS ANKOBRA, during which they observed selected naval operations and demonstrations and engaged with naval personnel. The programme showcased the professionalism, readiness and commitment of the Ghana Navy to safeguard Ghana’s maritime domain and to support regional security initiatives.
